Idaho visitors Miela and Marty stopped by to see what we were doing, and of course we invited them to come sketching with us in Italy in 2017! It’s always such fun to share interests with others.

    Erik got to our meeting place first this morning (as usual) and started right in on the interesting architecture of the place.

     From a simple quick pencil sketch to layers of color – it emerges!

   Barb Sh announces she figured out what to add to the page she started last week, featuring Erik & Jane – a gargoyle peering at them!

   After her pencil sketch to see how pieces would interact on the page, she inks the images in…now, ready for color!

And in the interest of full disclosure, here’s what Jane (recently rattled by her air conditioning system quitting back at home) did.

100 Mile Bakery @ Sprout, Springfield, OR

Jane and Erik got there first, and immediately (after Erik’s berry pie) started sketching – Jane the flowers, Erik the sign & street vista.

     Here are Jane’s sketches – too much coffee influenced the first, but she finally calmed down for the poppies. Whew.

        Erik said he came to get inspired, and he got it! Or did he… Yep.

Sandy, Tricia, and Barb Sh interrupt their sketching for a chuckle.

     Here’s what Barb Sh was working on – so interesting to see how the initial sketch continues to evolve, now with the Iceland Poppies, too.

   Sandy’s fears that she’s lost her sketching chops were for naught.

    
By the time Barb A joined us, people were seriously into sketching, and Barb wasted no time in getting her watercolor flowing.

       Here’s how Tricia’s sketch developed from a simple black & white outline to – ah, color! Yes! There’s more to this story – check back!

      Barb Sh is finishing a sketch from last week, putting in color – I asked about the color on the chair: “Shiraz!” she replied. We like it.

       Jane’s looking out the window – what to draw, what to draw…

Satoko and Tricia barely interrupt sketching to talk plans for Europe.

       Satoko has already sketched the view across the room, then quickly adds a sketch of the red umbrellas outside on the patio.

            Tricia’s gazing out the window, too – umbrellas! Ta dah!

Barb A shows up,  just home from painting in Venice and full of stories, but what can she draw in 10 minutes, she says…

     Oh! A chair! Of course! (and doesn’t she look pleased with herself!)

Friendly St. Market, Eugene, OR

     Jane was thrilled to see the cyclamen on the tables outside Friendly St. Market – here she is along with her sketches.

        As usual, Ken uses whatever tools he has stuck in his pocket – lookin’ pretty good there, but what else….not done ’til you’re done!

     Sandy has to make her time count because she goes to a ceramics class soon, and what a lovely count!

     Tricia tries sketching the cyclamen, too, trying  different styles to compare the effect. See below – charming, all of them!

    All this talk of flowers reminds Ken of the photo he took at the Oregon coast not long ago – anyone know what it is???

On a whole ‘nother note, Barb Sh showed us her completed page featuring the guy with nose & ear hair, along with DC gargoyles!

      Barb Sh started sketching a guy sitting near with his guitar,  but the model left (!), so she reverted back to sketching from photos.

    Meanwhile, Penelope is getting ready to go on a trip and is starting a new sketchbook for the occasion, beginning with a map of Oregon.

        Erik sketches to his own tune, but trying to do a portrait from a photo was frustrating to him – he said he thought he did pretty well in drawing the stuffed squid. (I’ve got to see the final version!)

Phyllis Helland was walking by, and some of the TDs knew her & that she always carried a sketchbook, so they urged her to join us.

      Phyllis immediately got in the swing of the unspoken tradition, and started sketching…Erik and his signature hat!  Welcome, Phyllis. We hope you’ll come back to sketch with us!
