Stamp Ahead Sketchers
The idea is to go ahead in your new sketchbook, doing random stamping. We had lots of background stamps to share, and lots of letting go of planning. Some people tried using ink spritzer sprayers with stencils, too. Ken brought an air compressor attachment auto use Copic markers in layers You’ll have to come back to see what sketches are added to these juicy backgrounds! -
Surgery’s a not a sketch stopper!
Dec. 12, 2021, 5th St. Market
Jane, our webmaster, just got out of brain surgery in time to bring her son Sean along to sketch with the group! Apologies for a spacier report than usual, mostly stolen from Facebook photos by Peggy! Thanks.
Almost all of us there: Sean, Jane, Marsha, Daisy, Erik, Laura Such a delight to have Erik back, & going into watercolor. Daisy got a view across the room – such charm. Eva was at the next table, having fun with iridescent paints. Gail en;oys playing with pointillism. (is that how you spell it?) Jane was so happy to be withh her son Sean – not a lot of sketching, though. Jim H. reallly.eally got caught up in the colorful detail around us. Marsha was just glad to be there – time for a sketch break. Laura had some great fingerless gloves to keep her fingers nimble. Lynda decided people were too difficult to draw, so chose CHAIRS! ACK! When Peggy wasn’t running around taking photos, she sketched decorations. Sean tried his mom’s framing format, and WATERCOLOR! You go, guy! -
Bring on the new – sketching of course
Dec. 7, 2021, Market of Choice, Eugene, OR
Nearly all of us – Katie & Richard, Eva & Laura, Gail, Barb Sh, Marsha, Channing, Danita, Jim, Bill (Jane behind the camera, Hugh & Sandy in Idaho!) Jim & Bill welcome Richard. Bill’s sketches, Jim’s. Wonder if Hugh & Sandy are sketching? And here came a text from Hugh & Sandy, sketching at Albertsons in Meridian, Idaho! Katie introduces newcomer Richard to Jim, BIll, BarbSh, then adds to her sketch – wow! BarbSh is always gracious in sharing her process – water soluble ink, water brush! Wow. Oh look! Colette’s joined us, finishing her hand painted Christmas cards – simply lovely. Laura’s at her table, too, taking a distance view from the loft to the ceiling of the market! Marsha, across from her, starts doing portraits. Empty space? Add more portraits! Eva looks around, & starts portraits, too – now what? Maybe you’re done, said Jane. Gail has yet another perspective to draw the people in front of her – adding colored pencil. Channing uses a sharpened stick dipped in oak gall, & watercolor on the downstairs view. Danita chats with Marsha, then does a low cal version of the baked good downstairs! Jane ran around with camera in hand, did a line sketch, then started to watercolor. Richard, a sketchbook novice, gets materials & strategies info from the crew. Nice sketch! -
Movin’ Inside to Sketch!
Nov. 30, 2021 – Market of Choice, Eugene, OR
A beautiful sunny but chilly day.
Lynda, Eva, BarbSh, Katie, Bitty, BarbSo, Peggy, Danita, Marsha, Laura. BarbSh brought her LaRomita memory book entry, demoed using a plastic lid palette. BarbSo had a page with Hugh’s carved stamp, sweet portrait of Laura & elf friend. This was a change for Bitty – Caran de Ache crayon portraits on black paper – nice! Danita did a close up in her big sketchbook of what was in front of her! After downing her coffee, Eva looked over her left shoulder to sketch the plant below. When not taking photos, Jane looked the other way to sketch the Duck flag. What a combo – Katie sketched her scone, and Laura across the aisle. And here’s Laura sketching her little elf friend – what a cutie! After some deliberation, Lynda chose a challenging view to sketch. Marsha was on a portrait kick, too, white crayon & pencil on black papger – wow! Peggy made the most of her view out the window – just wait til she adds color to this! Surprise, Helga’s back! And Katie brought Channing Rudd, a newcomer to town & Emerald Vally Art Center, to see what we’re all about. Welcome! -
Admiring the Member Show
Nov. 23, 2021 – Maude Kerns Art Center, Eugene, OR
Eva, Colette, (2 outside admirers), Peggy, LyndaKatie, Laura; Marsha, Katie, Peggy, Eva, Lynda, Colette (Jane behind camera, Bitty left early). Note open door for ventilation. Lynda brought her friend Colette, who was happy to get back to drawing; Lynda, too! Daisy is our stand-up artist, and had a good time sketching the Frida K. inspirations. I really admire the way Eva is diving into her lovely art – no how do you mix brown? Jane peers down at Daisy’s books of sketches, gets a rough draft done, finishes at home. Katie is so intent on her focus of the “Otter Boat” – so delightful to see. Laura was into the photography, well, except the for charming rat! Nice work. Marsha captured the whole scene from the stage – now what – water on the TUL ink! You’ll have to keep coming back to see Peggy’s finished work – oh, those sculptures!
